Echoes a Best of Pink Floyd Review Disc 2

DISC 2 Back to Side 1

echoes a best of pink floyd review

Track 1 Shine on you Crazy Diamond Parts 1-7 There are actually 9 parts but you only get 7 here. For the full song about there old mate Syd Barrett you will need to get Wish you were here album.

Track 2 Time. Taken from The Dark Side of the Moon. This is about how time can slip by, but many people do not realize it until it is too late. Roger Waters got the idea when he realized he was no longer preparing for anything in life, but was right in the middle of it. He had just turned 28.

Track 3 The Fletcher Memorial Home. Taken from the Final Cut. The first album with out Richard Wright (Roger sacked him).

Track 4 Comfortably Numb. The Wall album produced some classic songs but this has to be the best. Dave Gilmours guitar playing is outstanding just like the rest of the song.

Track 5 When the Tigers broke free. I am not sure why this was included from the Final Cut album. In fact I don't know why it was released as a single. Then perhaps Roger wanted it to be released as he wrote it about his Dad.

Track 6 One of these days. 1st track on side 1 from Meddle. A up tempo gets you going sort of track.

Track 7 Us and them is taken from DSOTM album. Its a beautiful song written by Roger and Richard. Yes they did get on sometimes.

Track 8 Learning to Fly Another heavy track from David Gilmour from A Momentary Lapse of Reason

Track 9 Arnold Lane. The first single 1967 and was banned by the BBC as it told the tale of a man who like to take washing from clothes lines. A typical Syd Barrett song in terms of style not lyrics

Track 10 Wish you were here. From the album of the same name. Most of the album is about Pink Floyd missing their old chum Syd Barrett.

Track 11 Jug band Blues from

A Saucerful of Secrets This is Syd Barrett's last contribution to the group, and the only song on the album that he wrote and sang on. All the other tracks on A Saucerful of Secrets were written and sung by the rest of the group. Shortly before it was released, he left the band. (Actually due to his mental breakdown from drugs the group just didn't pick him up one day on the way to a gig.)The song itself is Barrett's self-diagnosis of schizophrenia, explained by the lines "I'm most obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here" and "I wonder who could be writing this song?"

Track 12 High hopes I found this track rather emotional and sad but perhaps that's me. Taken from Division Bell.

Track 13 Bike. To finish off with a Syd Barrett song. Simple but affective. Just brilliant. Find it on

Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

So Echoes of Pink Floyd is a good introduction to the music of Pink Floyd. They of course performed and recorded many other great songs and to fully appreciate there genius you should listen to all of there albums.

Pink Floyd Quotes

“When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.”

“Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, dont help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.”

“Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand
The best I can”

"And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun"

"Long you live and high you fly
Smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
All you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.
