Pink Floyd Atom Heart Mother
In 1970 the mood was concept and Rock
albums for many groups and Pink Floyd in there wisdom even though it was against there personal wishes produced
Atom Heart Mother.
Atom Heart Mother is a varied album but
is highlighted by the tracks Atom Heart Mother and Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast where you hear someone in a kitchen
frying up a Breakfast.
Roger Geesin who was experimenting with
electronics was brought in to help out on the production of Atom Heart Moth. The group were shattered after
extensive touring and were about to go out again and so enthusiasm was at a low. Roger Geesin help came when it was
needed.
The title 'Atom Heart Mother' was found
when Ron Geesin pointed to a copy of a newspaper and suggested to the band that he would find a title in it. Roger
saw an article about an operation that had been done on a mother to provide her with an atomic powered pacemaker.
and remarked, "That's a nice name. We'll call it that. Atom Heart Mother. "
Atom Heart Mother is different to all
the albums that had been released before. The title track was written for an “Imaginary Western” originally. Atom
Heart Mother the album and the track has been dismissed by Roger Waters and David Gilmour as the worst Pink Floyd
album and you can see what they mean but on the other hand I could name far worst.
The production was helped by Alan
Parsons who would go on to produce other Pink Floyd Albums including Dark Side of the Moon. He also became very
successful as Alan Parsons Project.
The album Atom Heart Mother consists of
5 tracks written by all members of Pink Floyd and helped by Roger Geesin on Atom Heart Mother.
All members of Pink Floyd have over the
years dismissed this as the worse Pink Floyd Album. (A matter of opinion I think)
Tracks
1 Atom Heart Mother
This starts off the album but was
originally called “The Amazing Pudding” then it became Epic and finally after Roger Gleesin and Roger Waters saw in
a news paper headline Atom Heart Mother. A story about a woman who had a atomic nuclear powered pacemaker fitted it
became known as Atom Heart Mother. The track is split into six sections the reason being that in those days record
companies paid royalties on the number of tracks so to maximize this rule Pink Floyd split Atom Heart Mother in to
six sections. David Gilmour came up with the basic theme but with contributions from all members it became Atom
heart mother. Further help was given by Ron Geesin. Roger Geesin had worked with Roger Waters on The Body which was
a modern jazz album with experimentation. Ron Geesin helped out on Atom Heart Mother because Pink Floyd were
touring in the United States they were under pressure to release a new album. So Roger Geesin helped out with the
orchestration arrangements. He also introduced the Brass section to the music.
The six sections were
named
A Fathers
shout. Ron Geesin named this piece a she found it appealing to name opposites so as the main title
was Atom Heart Mother this became Fathers Shout.
