Pink Floyd
Obscured by Clouds

Pink Floyd Obscured by Clouds
This is the seventh album by Pink Floyd which was concieved for the soundtrack of the movie La Vallèe Obscured by Clouds or by the english title The
Valley. A film directed by Barbet Schroeder in 1972.
It’s a Hippy film where a
couple go in search for paradise fuelled by drugs. Apparently is reasonably successful in Europe but this sound
track faired better in US and UK reaching 46 and 6 respectfully.
The sleeve is a funny picture to Obscured by clouds until you realize that it is a
still picture of a man in a tree out of focus.
Pink Floyd had already recorded More which was another soundtrack to Barbet
Schroeder’s film also called More. So when he asked them to record the soundtrack to this they agreed and
took off in the middle of recording Dark Side of the Moon to France.
They only had two weeks to record this album (It says it all ).
It is not there best album but it is a important album in there development. The track
Free four was the first Pink Floyd track to get significant air play and is also the first song by Roger
Waters dealing with his fathers death.
The live concerts Pink Floyd played in 1973 often contained a jam session of the songs
“Obscured by Clouds” and “When your in”. All of this is happening while getting together Dark Side of the
Moon. Its amazing that this album is so bad compared with Dark Side if the Moon. But to fair Pink Floyd do
not like having to work quickly and unfortunately they were under a two week pressure to get this finished
for the film.
The strongest tracks are
Its a group experimenting on music and by chance a couple of good tunes surface. These
